Students transition from Montessori-inspired classrooms to a more traditional curriculum in 2nd and 3rd grade while still receiving individualized support. Small class sizes allow teachers to know each child personally, address challenges, and provide both one-on-one and whole-group instruction. The focus is on achieving grade-level proficiency in reading, writing, and math while fostering faith and virtue. The well-rounded curriculum also includes Science, Handwriting, Social Studies, Music, Art, and Physical Education.
With the teacher providing guidance, students work in groups or independently to define the scope of the project by proposing questions or problems to solve, design the methods used in the PBL, and carry out the work to complete the project. Students who struggle to engage with learning through conventional approaches often thrive within the PBL structure with its hands-on, active approach to learning.
As they work on their project, students apply other core subjects such as research and writing, interviewing and speaking, video production, and math and science applications.
